The New Season... thus far (CW)

So I caught Privileged on it's reair tonight, and I thought it was pretty cute. I found myself giggling and enjoying it quite a bit. I'm a fan of Gossip Girl, and One Tree, and loved The OC, and grew up on the original 90210, so I've seen my share of teen shows with a focus on rich kids. Granted One Tree Hill wasn't all about that, but there were several kids who definitely had a semi-priviledged lifestyle like Brooke, Nate, and Rachel. I still enjoy One Tree, but it's never been my 'favorite'. I always prefered The OC to One Tree. Though I found some characters in One Tree who I really loved, and so far this season has started with some interesting stuff, but there's also some stuff I can already see getting old fast. I'm pretty well sick of Brooke's mom, she's not fun to hate the way Dan was. He was amusing in his evilness. And while I laughed through the first episode of him being tormented by crazy 'Nanny' Carrie, I'm over it already. Now I just want Dan to kill her, and take Brooke's mom out while his at it. And the ending of both the first two eps definitely left a sour taste. Brooke getting beat up, I don't know, it was just icky, and not in the way I think it was intended to be icky. Same thing with the, at least in my book, random ass killing of Q, who was becoming much more fun at the end of last season. Why do they take all my favorites off the show? I know there's mixed feelings over some of my favorites, but I loved Mouth, and was really enjoying Millie all last season, and I really hope this 'move' isn't permanent. Because for me, it loses a lot of fun of the show. Then there's Rachel, who was only in a couple episodes last season, and her story felt very 'untold' to me. I'd really like to see a lot more of her and what's happened to her, both in the four years lapsed, that lead to her becoming a drug addict, and in this time since she took off from Brooke's. Rachel was a better friend to Brooke than Peyton ever was, and Brooke seemed to have let her down in return. And speaking of the Peyton/Brooke friendship, I don't know, Peyton's reaction to Brooke being all bruised up and 'buying' the fell down the stairs story seems really :p. I mean, she just like accepted that and whatever. I think I'd freak out a lot more if my best friend looked like that for any reason.

Now, Gossip Girl, still enjoying it, not my favorite, never was. But it's always kind of additively entertaining. There is something about it that hooks you and keeps you coming back. Something that I think might be lacking with the new 90210. It does have a familiar vibe to the original, and it's cool seeing some old faces, which was my main reason for tuning in. I'm going to probably watch as long as it's relatively conveniently to do so, but right now, there may be a point where I just don't care enough anymore. Unlike Gossip Girl, which I seem to need to see.

Yeah, so that was pretty much all about the CW, but I watch a lot of CW. I like it. Though my favorite show, over all, and on CW isn't any of those I've mentioned. Nor does it share many qualities with those shows. My favorite I am still awaiting the premier of for the new season. It's coming this week, and I'm definitely excited for that one. It almost never disappoints me. :)

Mini Marathons

Last couple days I've been hanging out at my aunt's house and have now stumbled onto two little marathons. Yesterday it was a short marathon of Tru Calling episodes on Sci-Fi. It was fun, I hadn't really watched them since they were on air a couple years ago. I did buy the DVDs though some months back when they were on a big sale at Best Buy. It was fun, I'd enjoyed that show, and it was cool getting to see it. Today, it's Burn Notice on USA. I got into it probably mid season last season, my mom had been watching from the start and I started watching it when there was nothing else on. It's really a fun show. The characters are likable, yet a little shady. I'm looking forward to the new season starting, and seeing what happens next.

Thank you, Boston Legal

I've seen a lot of finales in the last couple weeks for season enders. And I may, hopefully blog more about those. But I'd just like to show a little thanks for Boston Legal, for leaving things on a light and fun note. A nice change from the gut wrenching, and heart breaking season closers for a great many other series. I guess it's Boston Legal's much more 'comedic' nature, but that's what's so nice about it sometimes. :)

October Road

I like October Road, it's not my favorite show, and I find from week to week, there's often little things about some characters that bother me. Like the lead character, Nick, I don't find him especially 'likeable'. I don't think if he were a real person, that I'd want to be friends with him. However, there's characters, like 'Pizza Girl' who I always seem to like, and Owen, with a few situational exceptions, I find rather endearing as a character. Tonight's episode I found very little to be bothered with.

Spoiler warning... If you haven't seen it, and don't want plot details, don't read on.

The central plot about this girl, Angela, whom the boys all knew and played with, and loved when they were 10 years old, dies. They read about it in the paper. A girl they hadn't seen or talked to since they were 10 and she moved away. But she was an important piece of their childhood, and they're all a little shocked to find she died, leaving behind a husband and daughter. The whole story around this, I found very sweet and touching. It's a strange thing, finding out that someone you knew years ago as a kid, who's the same age as you, died. It's a little weird. And for them, it wasn't just an acquaintance, it was a girl who really actually played an important role in their childhood, and as they wonder, perhaps even in shaping them now. That she's that girl that they loved as kids, and ever since have been looking for that girl that would make them feel that kind of sweet, pure love they had then.

So much reality

I'm not immune to 'reality' television, I watch it. It was the majority of what I watched tonight. Though I can't say I really care all that much about it, at the same time. I spent two hours flipping between Fox and CW, American Idol and Top Model/Pussycat Dolls thing. And I can't say I cared all that much about any of them. If all of them vanished off the air tomorrow, never to air another episode, I really don't think I'd care. Even leaving it hanging and never knowing who 'won'. I don't care who wins all that much. I never cared enough to say call in and vote on American Idol, but I think I care even less now than a few seasons ago, with all the shows. It gets to feel all the same, no matter the contestants. The other reality show I watched tonight, which I find a bit more entertaining still, is Project Runway. Not because I'm all into fashion or anything. One look at my wardrobe and you'd know I'm not a fashion fiend. Not that I look horrible, but jeans are my staple, and comfy tanks and henleys make up most of what I wear. But for me, it's simply a show that hasn't gotten so 'old' after several seasons. Each season feels new, not just like the same crap with new faces. Perhaps because the designers all have their own flavor, or maybe it's just the way it's done, I'm not sure, but I find it, and the other Bravo reality shows of a similar nature much more interesting. Though the Bravo reality shows that aren't 'contests', I can't say I care much for. I don't find anything that appealing or intrieging about Housewives of Orange County or that show about the lesbian fitness instructor, or any of the rest. I seem to recall one about real estate also. But Top Chef, that Top Design, the new 'Make me a Supermodel' thing, they all are interesting, I find myself coming back to them, and enjoying them when I watch. The two major network reality shows I'm still curious to see more of is Fox's 'So you Think You can Dance', I find that to be fun, and each season and episode seems fresh, and not the same crap over and over. And then CW's Beauty and the Geek, which is an interesting thing to watch.

That all said, for as much as I do enjoy some reality shows, I much prefer scripted television, and find well crafted, fictional stories to be much more appealing, and stand up to time and draw me for repeat viewings. And if TV channels wanted to do away with all 'reality' TV, I wouldn't be too bothered by that. However there are fictional, scripted shows that I really do love so much, it takes time to get over when they end, like Angel, there was a withdrawl period with that show. And I always anxiously await upfronts in May to find out now if my favorite shows will be back for another season.

TV on DVD

This is something I LOVE. Not a lot of shows came out on VHS, it just wasn't something that seemed to be highly marketable. I had a few Star Treks on VHS, but not much. But with the advent of DVD, came TV on DVD. Whole seasons of a show in a set. I have tons of them. Before this trend, I used to record shows on tape like crazy, I had Buffy and Angel and Charmed, X-Files, and many others on VHS tapes, recorded from TV that I'd cut the commercials on. Then suddenly along came TV on DVD and I could just buy them all, and on DVD which holds up better than VHS. It's a great thing for the TV addicted, like me.

Currently in my DVD player is Season 2 of Two and a Half Men. It's funny because I didn't watch the show until recently. I only got hooked on it in the last few months in syndication. It's really pretty funny. The brother, Alan and his ex can be a little annoying. But aside from them, everyone else is pretty hilarious. The kid, Jake is so stupid, yet sometimes something oddly smart and witty comes out, and half the fun is how dumb he is. And Charlie and Alan's mother is just hilariously 'cruel'. I loved the episode where Charlie starts dating a woman who is basically a younger version of their mom.

Introduction

I love TV, it's been something I've grown up with, from Sesame Street and Mr Rogers when I was little to the assortment of things I watch today. I'm going to try and keep this up and basically talk about what I watch and what I think of it and everything else TV related. Obviously this isn't 'unbiased' it's my opinions. Some shows will probably never be talked about, since I don't watch them. Others will be mentioned often, if they are something I enjoy and watch frequently. As for format. I'm going with a 'whatever works for me' kind of notion. I might talk about what I just watched that day or week. I might focus on one show that I feel like talking about, or some other subject that has something to do with TV. And we'll see if anyone reads. *L*
